What is the procedure for a Thai national to apply for a Thai passport?
My child’s Thai nanny is going to come with us to Singapore during his summer holidays. Will it be difficult for her to apply for a passport? Where should she go to make her application? What does she need to produce? How much will it cost and how long will it take?

My passport is expired already and need to do that myself. The foreign ministry has modernised the passport department about 14 years ago, and has set up the four corner of Bangkok Passport centre. I think now there’re only three of them.
The HQ so called for the passport division is at Chang Wattana, call Consular Department. It’s a space looking building at the centre of Chang Wattana road.
In addition, there used to be passport centre at Central Bangna, and Central Pinkloa, but I’ve heard they moved already. You gotta check with the foreign ministry website. But Consular Department at Chang Wattana is a sure big bet, you can’t miss it.
As for what you need, I was told that these days you only need the Thai government issued ID cards. With the ID number, the foreign ministry can access all the information from the Interior ministry. On a safe side, have also a copy of the House Registration with her name on it too. Usually, the Thai government offices require that. Besides from that all are done at the passport division, and it cost about a bit more than a 1,000 baht, and will take 3-5 days, depending on whether it’s urgent or not for her to travel. They can also send the finished passport by registered mail to you house. Because the passport require picture to be taken digitally into the passport, the person applying need to be there in person. It is said that only one family exempt for visiting the passport division: you know who. The passport division go to them.
Hope that helps.
I just had my daughter’s Thai passport renewed at the Chang Wattana office. It’s a beuatiful office with basically no waiting as they probably have 75 people or so processing passports. They will either send it to you within a few days, we picked ours up two days later at the office. Here’s the official website that will tell you what you need and the cost as well as different locations, you may want to call if you want to go to a different location to be sure they are still processing passports there, the Chang Wattana office is near Don Muang Airport, Good luck: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/474.php
Click on About the Ministry for links to the locations.
Cost about 1500baht for a 5-year passport.
