What's the difference between pad thai and putt thai?

Nit noi in Houston serves putt thai, but it seems just like the pad thai served in other thai restaurants. Is there a difference?

Yeah, it’s pad thai. There are several romanization methods (ways of writing Thai words in English), some based on letter-for-letter and some based on phonetic transliteration. So English attempts to write Thai words end up with various spellings.

"putt" is a rather inaccurate phonetic attempt for ???, the vowel does not have the short "u" sound of putt.

Probably a spelling mistake on the menu.

Putt thai does not make sense. To me as a Thai Guy.
    Pad, means stir fry.
    Thai, is atually Thai Style
together Pad Thai is Thai style stir fry.

In the Thai language, the "pad" of pad Thai is actually pronounced more like "putt," so they were probably just spelling it how they would pronounce it, not realizing Americans are used to the spelling pad.

To whoever thumbed me down, here’s a youtube video of a native Thai speaker saying pad thai with Thai pronunciation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdvS4VXXV1Y

You are eating pad thai. The person who wrote the menu obviously doesn’t spell well.
