How to fill a prescription for a medication legally in Thailand?

I may be going to Thailand for a period of Six months to 1 year. I have a prescription that I have taken for over 10 years that I will need to fill. The medication is called Clonzepam, klonopin in the US and Rivotril in Japan and Canada. Does anyone know the procedure for filling this in Thailand as an expat and if it is even available?
Also, do you know what the Thai name is for this medication
Where would I have it filled if I am not in Bangkok? I am in America now, I might go to phuket, Chiang mai or Bangkok.

My recommendation to you if your really concern about your health is to go to one of the international hospitals in Bangkok like Bumrungard and see a doctor. I am not sure if clonzepam is available but if not they will recommend what to take in place of it.

Ask them if this medication can be obtain locally at a pharmacy. If the doctor says yes then have them fill the prescription for you but only tell them you want about a weeks worth since these hospitals overcharge about 50% for prescriptions

Next go to any local pharmacy and buy your medication. You will save at least 45% to 50% over hospital cost. Try to get recommendations on a pharmacy in your area from local people. The pharmacy I use is always full of people this is a good sign that the place doesn’t sell fake drugs.

You can make this enquiry at any international hospital in Bangkok and other major cities,,

    http://www.bumrungrad.com

Any drug store will fill your prescription. They probably won’t even ask to see the prescription.

Walk into any hospital or pharmacy and tell them what you need. Thailand doesn’t do prescriptions. I would trust any hospital more than a local pharmacy though.

you do not need the prescription except for pain killers and things like Xanex. even these are available without a script

To be relieved of unnecessary worries, why don’t you ask your doctor, before leaving your country to give you prescription for you medicines.
You can use that in any country you will go.

I would bring your medical records from your home country for the use of this drug and see if your doctor will give you a prescription. You can take a 90 day prescription with you to Thailand and as others have said just go to the international hospital. Some of the best are: Bumrungrad, BNH or Yanhee (Bangkok); Chiang Mai Ram or Maharaj Hospital (Chaing Mai); Siriroj Hospital in Phuket but there are others.

I saw a doctor at Bumrungrad for about $20 US and the meds they gave me (for a rash) were about $7. They may require some sort of liver function test but the total cost should be really inexpensive. The drug itself may be similar in cost to your home country.

There has been some concern about people selling fake pills and also people buying drugs (Clonzepam is one of them) to sell back home. My advise is to stick with reputable hospitals and don’t get involved with black market as you might get stopped at the Airport or find you have some explaining to do when you get home with a three year supply. ;)
