Let's Speak Thai ...
The Kingdom of Thailand is a country located in Southeast Asia. It borders with Laos and Cambodia in the east, with the Gulf of Thailand and
Malaysia in the south and the Andaman Sea and Myanmar in the west. Thailand's capital and largest city is Bangkok.
Thailand's population is categorized into the Central Thai, the Northeastern Thai or Isan, the Northern Thai, and the Southern Thai. Although
the Central Thai make up only about one-third of Thailand's population and are slightly outnumbered by the Northeastern Thai, they have long
dominated the nation politically, economically and culturally. Due to the education system and the efforts to forge a national identity, many
people in Thailand now speak Central Thai as well as their own local dialects.

The Chinese make up the largest group of non-Thai people and many have assimilated into mainstream Thai society. Other dominant ethnic
groups in Thailand include Malays in the south, Mon, Khmer and various hill tribes. Many Vietnamese refugees settled in Thailand after the
end of the Vietnam War, and are located mostly in the northeastern region of the country.
Thailand - Language
The Thai language is Thailand's national language, written in its own alphabet, but many ethnic and regional dialects exist as well as areas
where people speak predominantly Isan or Mon-Khmer languages. English is widely taught in schools, although its use is not widespread throughout
the country. (reference: Wikipedia.org).
